Acts of Cintingency

Goethe-Institut, Athens

May 17, 2025

Acts of Contingency is a performative concert combining guitar-based drones, experimental noise elements, spoken poetry, improvised movement, and spatial interventions within the auditorium of the Goethe-Institut Athens.

Through the microphonation of the grand piano and stage components, sound is sculpted and layered into a dense acoustic structure that gradually abstracts the space itself. Static elements of the stage are expanded through a series of spatial interventions—such as the large pendulum microphone work Momentum suspended among the audience, sound-insulating panels on the walls, illuminated clocks, and chair sculptures. These objects act as impulses for movement and the unfolding of the score. The sung and spoken poem Dance of the Partisan introduces an additional temporal layer to the performance. It reflects on cycles of day and night, breath, and the body's commitment to the present moment, resonating with the lighting design and the projection of the photograph Light Studies 3/4.
